Here is the essential, updated process we’ll work through:
The Washington Notary Process: 5 Key Steps
1. Meet the Basic Requirements You need to be 18+. You must also be capable of reading and writing English. Additionally, you should must live or have a place of employment or practice in Washington State.
2. Secure Your Surety Bond (Minimum $10,000) You must obtain a surety bond before you can apply. The bond should be at least $10,000. This bond protects the public and is a required part of your application package. I recommend getting your bond through the National Notary Association (NNA):

3. Finish the Notary Application Fill out the Notary Public Commission Application. You’ll find this form and others you need on the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) website.

4. Finish the Notary Oath & Schedule Your Notarization The application requires a signed and notarized Oath of Office. You can find this form within the DOL notary forms link above. It is often called the Notary Public Applicant Oath of Office.
🔥 MENTOR TIP: Complete the Oath of Office form and schedule an appointment with me (or another commissioned Notary Public!) to get this notarization. This is the last step before submitting your application!
5. Submit Your Complete Package Gather your notarized Oath of Office. Include a copy of your signed $10,000 surety bond. Add your completed application with the required fee. Submit everything to the DOL!
Important Note on Training: Washington State does not require a mandatory education course or exam for a traditional commission. As your mentor, and I strongly recommend you notice the excellent training and resources.
