To serve as a witness for notarization, it is important to adhere to the next guidelines:

  1. Eligibility: Make sure you are of legal age (usually 18 or older) and capable of understanding the notarization process.
  2. Neutrality: Stay impartial and do not have a vested interest in the document being notarized. Your role is to verify the identity of the signer.
  3. Identification: Bring a form of identification, like a driver’s license or passport, to prove your identity to the notary.
  4. Presence: Be physically there when the signer is signing the document. You be asked to sign as a witness as well.
  5. Understanding: Familiarize yourself with the document and the process. But, do not give legal advice. Do not influence the decisions of the signer.
